Manama, Feb. 27 (BNA): Held under the auspices of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa with the kind support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of HM the King, President of the Supreme Council of Women and Chairperson of the Consultative Board of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD); this year’s edition of Bahrain International Gardens Show (BIGS2017) was concluded Sunday at Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre (BIECC).
On the final day, the selected winners of BIGS prizes were announced after thorough assessment by expert panelists.
Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Ministry scored 432 points winning the top prize followed by the Ministry of Education scoring 397 points winning the second prize and the Supreme Council for Environment scoring 375 points winning the third prize, in the category of the quality of exhibited items and the best presentation of items.
The Kingdom Enterprises scored 477 points winning the first prize, Alba scored 434 points winning the second prize and the Royal Court scored 407 winning the third prize in the design category.
Several local and overseas companies won in the category of variety commercial items displaying.
The Organising Committee decided to honour the winners in the following categories: garden design category was won by Green View company which scored 477 points. The best exhibiting nursery category was won by Hijair horticultural nursery which scored 315 points. The best flower shop category was won by Leaves shop which scored 460 points. The best garden accessories shop category was won by “Kamaliyat” shop which scored 425 points. The best playground equipment company category was won by “Bait Home” which scored 405. The best farming equipment company category was won by Al Mahroos company which scored 337 points. The best food products company category was won by “Terra Creta” which scored 346 points.
BIGS2017 was the biggest and largest in terms of the number of visitors reaching more than 40,000 from countries around the globe especially from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) expressed her gratitude and appreciation to all the local and overseas exhibiters and the participants for their efforts and contributions which ensured such aesthetic and successful showcasing of this exhibition.
The Kingdom Enterprises signed agreements with overseas companies from Canada, China, Italy and the Netherlands on the side-lines of their participation in BIGS2017.
It is worth mentioning that the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) and in collaboration with the University of Bahrain (UoB) implemented the BIGs logo this year in the academic pavilion which attracted a large number of visitors from inside the Kingdom and from abroad who are interested in the agricultural fields, including citizens and residents, and provided them with solutions applicable in micro-spaces.
