MANAMA, Bahrain (June 2, 2016) – Under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the continued support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of the king of Bahrain, President of the Consultative Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, Bahrain International Garden show will be held at the Bahrain International Convention and Exhibition Centre during the period from February 23rd to 26th , 2017.
The Bahrain International Garden Show, organized by the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, is a leading platform in Bahrain and the Arabian Gulf. BIGS has contributed to the development of skills and knowledge of agricultural experts and enthusiasts through providing the ideal environment for the exchange of experiences and showcasing the latest agricultural techniques. The show has provided a boost to the agricultural sector and has had a positive impact on increasing its contribution to the national economy. It has also helped create opportunities to form partnerships between local and international organizations in this growing field.
The population growth and urban expansion resulted in the decrease of agricultural areas, thus, it has become necessary to develop new systems and methods of spreading greenery in the country.
During a press conference to announce the event, Shaikha Maram Bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, stated that: “We will focus this year on new methods and systems that utilize small spaces to create compact gardens. Such gardens can produce volumes of food, flowers, fragrance, beauty, and require little time to manage or maintain. At the show, beginner gardeners and professionals will benefit from a variety of displays including: Design ideas for Roof and Terrace Gardens, Container gardening, Vertical gardens and Raised bed Garderns”
“This event represents a great opportunity for agri-business owners to connect with the public in order to increase their customer base and pursue new partnerships with their counterparts”, added Shaikha Maram.
Visitors of the Bahrain International Garden Show include VIPs, architects, consultant engineers, academics, developers, professionals from various sectors and students of schools and universities, as well as lovers of agriculture and consumers.
During the past years, Bahrain International Garden Show attracted many exhibitors from Europe, America and countries of the Far East and the Middle East.
Shaikha Maram, stated: “the show has continued to grow over the years, where exhibiting space reached 7,000 square meters, while the number of visitors in the last show, surpassed 36 thousand visitors and there were 155 exhibitors from various countries.”
At the next show, Exhibition Hall 1, “The Market Zone”, will be dedicated to the marketing of various agricultural products such as flowers, plants, agricultural tools, pots, garden furniture, machinery, lighting equipment, and many more agricultural products and services. Exhibition Hall 2 is divided into two sections: the “Awareness Zone” will focus on raising awareness and educating visitors about Agriculture. Exhibitors include public and educational institutions and civil society organizations who will display their services, projects, and latest agricultural innovations; and the “Design Zone” will showcase innovations in the field of gardening, landscaping, and garden design and will include participants from the public and private sectors .
